All year round graduates compete to get through the exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). SSC CGL recruits graduates through this exam for its Group B and Group C posts at different ministries, department and organization. It is considered to be one of the most attractive exams for graduates besides the perks and recognition it offers in society. It is conducted in four phases. To crack this exam it becomes necessary for the candidate to have thorough knowledge about the syllabus of the exam

SSC CGL 2019 Syllabus 

SSC CGL notification has been released on their website. The mentioned topics have to be covered within the stipulated time of 6 months as the exam is to be held in the month of June. The ones preparing must have a fair idea about the syllabus but a proper strategy will help to ace the exam. Important topics for the Tier 1 exam:

  • Quantitative Aptitude

This section of the tier 1 exams requires a candidate to have good knowledge in maths which can be gained only through a lot of practice. Before hitting the sack it is always recommended to aim at the target, so should a candidate. Below are the important topics mentioned to clear the cut-off:

Important topics for Tier ll:

It is always recommended to practice with the SSC CGL 2019 syllabus. The topics given in the notification has to be covered but with the hard work should be done strategically. The following are the major topics to be covered to clear this tier of the exam.

Quantitative Aptitude:

The topics given under SSC CGL 2019 syllabus for Tier ll are same as the ones given under Tier l quantitative aptitude exam. It becomes easier for the candidates to clear this paper of Tier ll with continued practice of the same topic which would be of higher difficulty level. All they have to do is increase their speed of working out the questions within a short span of time. Yet the following are the questions mainly to be focused on:

English Language and Comprehension

The number of questions asked in this section is 200 and the candidate has to just keep practising on the numerous topics to score well. The ones who prepared well in Tier l for this subject need no further effort to clear this section. The candidates applying for the post of Statistical Investigator have to write this paper and focus on major topics of statistics such as follows.

General Studies

The candidates applying for the post of Assistant Audit Officer(AAO) need to write this paper of 200 marks. 


This part covers 80 marks of this paper and the rest is allotted to the economics part. Following are the important topics to be covered from the Finance part of the SSC CGL 2019 syllabus:

  • Financial accounting: Nature and scope, Basic concepts and convention, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Limitations of financial accounting, Basic concepts of accounting- Single and double entry, Profit and loss appropriation account, Depreciation Accounting, Bills of Exchange, Self Balancing Ledgers, Trial Balance, Rectification of errors, Manufacturing, Trading, Balance Sheet distinction between  Capital and Revenue Expenditure.

Economics and governance

It covers the rest of the 120 marks of paper IV of SSC CGL 2019 syllabus of Tier ll. The important topics to be covered under this subject are the following.

  • Comptroller and Auditor General of India
  • Finance commission
  • Basic concepts of microeconomics
  • Theory of Demand and Supply
  • Theory of production and cost
  • Forms of Market
  • Price determination in different markets
  • Indian Economy

After clearing the overall cut-off for tier l and tier ll, the candidate has to appear for the Tier lll exam where the questions asked are based on the current affairs. Regular practice of essay, precis and letter writing helps to score well in his Tier of SSC CGL exam.

After the result of Tier lll, the candidate has to appear for the qualifying test of the computer proficiency test. It is recommended to practice on powerpoint, excel, adding rows and columns. This test is to just see whether the candidate has the basic knowledge of computer. Practice and hard work can help a candidate to excel in this exam.
